A date of 1832 is supported by an article entitled
Letter from the Secretary of the Geographical Society at Bombay to
the Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society of London to be
found on pages v-xi of Vol. 3 (1833), of the
Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London.
The letter from J. Fraser Heddle, dated Bombay, June 6th, 1832,
indicates that the Bombay Geographical Society had
"recently been formed" (p.v).
On p.vi, the letter indicates that the
Bombay Geographical Society wished to form ties with the
Royal Geographical Society of London and to considered a branch of
the latter.
The Asiatic Society of Bombay website indicates that in 1873 , the Bombay Geographical Society merged with the Bombay Branch of Royal Asiatic Society (BBRAS), which later became the Asiatic Society of Bombay. |
