Society of Biblical Archaeology
[The Society of Biblical Archaeology was founded on 1870,
December 9, according to AnyDay-in-History:
December 09.
According to Scudder
#465, the Syro-Egyptian Society of London (founded in 1844)
was merged into the Society of Biblical Archaeology.
This evidently happened in 1870 or somewhat later.
It appears that in 1919 the Society of Biblical Archaeology merged
into the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland
(founded in 1823).
This latter contention is supported by two pieces of evidence.
First, the Library Catalogues page at the
Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland includes the note:
"Note: includes collections of the Library of the Society of
Biblical
Archaeology, merged with RAS, 1919."
Second, according to a record in the
University of Leicester
Union List of Periodicals:
"Proceedings of the Society of Biblical Archaeology
London: Society of Biblical Archaeology, 1878-1918
[became Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and
Ireland]".]

[According to its website,
the Academy resulted in 1872 from a transformation of the
Krakowskie Towarzystwo Naukowe (founded in 1815) into a national
Academy.
According to
Kiger
(1993), p.232-233, with the start of the Nazi occupation in the Second
World War, and the later Communist control of the country, this Academy
fell into a period of inactivity and was nearly disbanded and supplanted
by the newer Polska Akademia Nauk (PAN), which had been established
in 1952.
In 1989, it was reactivated through an agreement between the surviving
members of the pre-1952 PAU and the governing board of PAN
according to
Kiger
(1993), p.233.]
