1788	This date is supported by its website. An interesting question is during which periods the Society used the spelling "Philomatique" and the spelling "Philomathique" in its name. Much relevant information can be gleaned from the catalogue records of its serial publications, but such data for the period 1836-1863 indicates merely that a change in spelling occurred during the period without specifying when this happened. The record in the Bibliot. Nat. France cat.for the monograph entitled Mémoire sur la question de savoir s'il existe des masses continues et sur la nature probable des dernières particules des corps... published in 1844 includes the note: "Société philomatique de Paris", which makes it clear that the spelling "philomatique" was in use in 1844. The record in the Bibliot. Nat. France cat.for the monograph entitled Société philomatique de Paris. Extrait de la séance du ″6 mars 1852″. Géométrie descriptive et analytique makes it clear that the spelling "philomatique" was in use in 1852. These two records and several with publication dates from 1845 to 1851 make it clear that the spelling "philomatique" was in use from as early as 1844 to 1852. The record in the Bibliot. Nat. France cat.for the monograph entitled Société philomathique de Paris. Extrait de la séance du 26 mars 1853. [Compte rendu de l'exposé de M. Viquesnel sur ses observations géologiques lors de son dernier voyage en Turquie.] makes it clear that the spelling "philomathique" was in use in 1853. Given (1) that the spelling used in their 1825-26; 1832-33 serial was "Philomatique", (2) the data above, and (3) that the spelling used from 1864 onward was "Philomathique", it seems plausible that the name from 1836 to 1851 was Société Philomatique de Paris, but the name from 1853 to 1863 was Société Philomathique de Paris.

An examination of the starting page of each online issue shows that the title was Bulletin de la Société Philomatique a ses Correspondans up to and including No. 45 (Florial, Prairial, Messidor et Thermidor, 4e année républicaine), but from No. 46 et 47 (Fructidor, Vendemiaire, Brumaire et Frimaire, 4e année républicaine) the title was spelled Bulletin de la Société Philomathique a ses Correspondans.
