This date is supported by p.17 of
Genner, where we also learn that
this Society was formed by Johan Clemens Tode (1736-1806) as a rival to
Societas Disputatoria Medica Haunienis (Medical Debating
Society of Copenhagen), which was founded by Matthias Saxtorph (1740-1800)
in 1785 and ceased in 1787.
Tode was also involved in the founding of several other Copenhagen societies: Kirurgiske Privatselskab (1771-1783), Københavnske Medicinske Selskab (1772-1872), and Societas Exercitatoria Medica (1774-1785). Saxtorph was also involved in the founding of the Societas Exercitatoria Medica. This Societas Philiatrica should not be confused with a society of the same name that was founded in 1829. |
