This date is supported by a book entitled:
Etablissement de l'Académie Royale de Peinture, Sculpture et
Architecture, à Toulouse, par Lettres Patentes du Roi,
enregistrées au Parlement le 13 janvier 1751
published: Toulouse, Rayet, 1779.
The Toulouse VIIIème page at the Musée des Augustins website in Toulouse indicates that "En 1726, Antoine Rivalz fonde une véritable école de dessin, indépendante de celle de Paris, qui deviendra en 1750 l'Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture de Toulouse, la seule en province à bénéficier du soutien royal." Although the Academy may have been founded in 1750, it is clear that it was not formally issued letters-patent by the King until January of 1751. The same year that the Academy was dissolved, the Musée des Augustins was created, and (according to their collections page) became the beneficiary of the former academy's collection of painting and sculpture. |
